The National Assembly has told suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, that she cannot yet resume her legislative duties despite the expiration of her six-month suspension.
In a letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly (Ag. CNA), Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Parliament said her suspension, which began on March 6, 2025, remains in effect as the case is still before the Court of Appeal.
The clarification came after Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan notified the Senate of her intention to return to her seat on September 4, citing the end of her suspension period.
Responding, Danzaria stressed:
“The matter remains subjudice, and until the judicial process is concluded and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the court’s pronouncement, no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption. You will be duly notified of the Senate’s decision on the matter as soon as it is resolved.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan had earlier challenged her suspension at the Federal High Court in Abuja but, dissatisfied with the court’s ruling in favour of the Senate, she proceeded to the appellate court.
She was suspended in March 2025 after a heated confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seat arrangements during plenary.
For now, her fate in the Red Chamber remains tied to the outcome of the Court of Appeal’s judgment.
