President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently in a closed-door meeting with the nation’s security chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The emergency session began shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, following recent outbreaks of violence in parts of the country, notably in Plateau and Benue states.
Earlier in the day, multiple security convoys were seen arriving at the villa, signaling the gravity of the situation.
Tinubu, who returned to Nigeria on Monday night after spending over two weeks on official engagements in Paris and London, is addressing renewed concerns over insecurity—particularly in Benue, where attacks blamed on armed herders recently claimed dozens of lives and displaced hundreds of residents.
Despite ongoing military efforts, communities continue to suffer destruction and loss, prompting the President to call for a comprehensive review of current security operations.
Reliable sources indicate that Tinubu is meeting with key officials, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, to assess the situation and consider additional steps to improve stability in high-risk areas such as Borno, Plateau, and Benue.
