A Chief Magistrate Court in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State has sentenced popular street-hop artist, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, to three months in prison with an option of a N30,000 fine.
The court found Portable guilty of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, offences that led to his arrest in March 2023 after he physically attacked a police inspector and obstructed the execution of an arrest warrant.
During the hearing, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olumide Awoleke, told the court that the incident occurred on November 18, 2022, at about 11:00 a.m. in Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.
According to the charge sheet, Portable and others still at large conspired to commit assault, an offence contrary to Section 517 of the Ogun State Criminal Code Law, 2006. He was also accused of beating one Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi, in violation of Section 351 of the same law.
In addition, the singer faced charges of theft of music equipment—including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, Studio 2 interface connection cable, and an AKG P420 condenser microphone—offences that fall under Sections 383, 384, and 390 of the Criminal Code Law.
Delivering the judgment, Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo found Portable guilty on two counts. He was sentenced to one month in prison with an option of a N10,000 fine for the first count, and two months in prison with an option of a N20,000 fine for the second count.
