Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Akin Omole, has said that the state government had evacuated 28 students of Ekiti origin from crisis spots in Jos, the Plateau State capital, following the security challenges in the North Central state in the past weeks.
Omole said, “The operation was carried out with the support of security agencies who provided adequate cover for the journey from Jos to Ado-Ekiti. All the young Ekiti sons and daughters are in good health and delighted to be reunited with family members alive and well.”
The commissioner, in a statement on Monday, titled, ‘EKSG evacuates stranded Ekiti students from crisis spots in Plateau State’, said that the governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, ordered the operation which ensured the safe return of the young indigenes on Sunday night.
He stated, “On learning about the plight of the stranded young Ekiti indigenes, Governor Fayemi spared no cost in facilitating the logistics and security required for their safe evacuation in line with the government’s commitment to the welfare, safety, and security of all Ekiti indigenes at home and abroad.
“The government of Ekiti State remains committed to safety, peace and security in the state and helping Ekiti indigenes outside the state to the best of our abilities.”
One of the students, Tolulope Aina, said, “I am very happy to be home and I am proud to be from Ekiti State and happy that we have a governor who goes the extra mile to ensure no one is left behind.”
