The Jama’atu Nasril Islam has congratulated Muslims on the beginning of the new Islamic year, Muharram 1447AH, calling for renewed devotion, peace, and national prayers.
The Secretary-General of the organisation, Professor Khalid Aliyu, issued the message in Kaduna, highlighting the sacredness of Muharram as one of the four months in Islam during which violence and vices are forbidden. He conveyed the appeal of the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, who urged global leaders to de-escalate tensions, particularly between Iran and Israel, for the sake of world peace.
Aliyu encouraged Muslims to observe the voluntary fasts of Tasu’a and Ashura on July 4 and 5, describing them as highly recommended by Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him). He said these fasts carry great spiritual reward, second only to those of Ramadan.
He also called for intensified prayers for the peace, unity, and progress of Nigeria, while urging Muslims to seek forgiveness, divine guidance, and protection. He reminded the Ummah to remain committed to righteousness, obedience to Allah, and positive change in the new year.
The JNI prayed for mercy on Muslim refugees and displaced persons around the world, and urged respect for authorities and the promotion of good governance. Aliyu concluded by wishing the Muslim community abundant blessings and prosperity in the year ahead.
