Erelu Mabel Tinuade Onaneye, the titleholder of Erelu Oodua and Irawo Ooni-Oodua of Yoruba land,
has berated the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed for saying it is untrue and smacks of dirty politicking that President Muhammadu Buhari has nothing more to offer in tackling insecurity in Nigeria.
Starnews Nigeria had reported that former President Olusegun Obasanjo says the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari, ), has done his best to proffer solutions to the security challenges confronting the nation, adding that Nigerians should not expect more from the Katsina-born retired major general.
Obasanjo made this known this week when leaders of socio-cultural organisations met in Abuja at a retreat on inclusive security organised by the Global Peace Foundation in collaboration with Vision Africa.
The elder statesmen including Obasanjo; Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, amongst others, lamented the incessant kidnappings, killings in the country, calling for collective actions to halt the worsening insecurity ubiquitous in the country.
Obasanjo said Nigerians should stop wasting time asking for the 78-year-old President to proffer more security solutions but should focus on the post-Buhari era.
But Buhari’s Minister, Lai Mohammed, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, faulted criticism that President Buhari has nothing more to offer in tackling insecurity.
He said Obasanjo’s statement is untrue and smacks of dirty politicking. “President Buhari has done so much, under very difficult economic and social conditions, to tackle insecurity in our country. Not only has he done so much. President Buhari continues to do much more to keep Nigerians safe. To say he has nothing more to offer is untrue, fallacious, and smacks of dirty politicking.”
Lai Mohammed added that “no Administration in Nigeria’s recent history has provided the security agencies with the hardware needed to tackle insecurity as that of President Buhari.”
In a statement sent to our email on Sunday, Erelu, the USA-based businesswoman, said that Lai Mohammed is known for his careless talk.
The highly respected international custodian of African cultures said Alhaji Lai Mohammed is a sycophant and traitor. She wrote: “With the magnitude of killings, banditry, and kidnapping going on consistently in every region in Nigeria, it’s unfortunate Lai Mohammed could come out to say Buhari is doing a lot to keep Nigerians safe. Lai Mohammed is a sycophant and traitor, and he is among those who brought us to where we are today in Nigeria.”
Erelu added: “Nigerians died daily from various attacks and incidents arising from insecurity across the country and yet, someone will say Buhari has done well. What careless talk! That is what baba Lai is known for anyway.”
She however called on the National Assembly to decide on the alternative means of tackling insecurity in Nigeria even if it would involve seeking help from the international community to end the senseless bloodshed in Nigeria.
