Worried by the rising level of insecurity especially kidnappings, the lawmaker representing Akoko North East and North West Federal Constituency, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has donated four vehicles to police formations in the area.

At a high-level stakeholders meeting on insecurity, Hon. Bunmi, the chairman house committee on NNDC said the donation and the programme, a 2020 zonal intervention project of the Border Communities Development Agency, Abuja, was triggered by the unabated crimes in the two council areas.

Starnews Nigeria reports that the high-level stakeholders meeting which was held at Ugbe with the theme Community Policing; Issues in Akoko Northeast/ Northwest federal constituency, was attended by leaders and traditional rulers from the two Council Areas.

At the meeting were 28 regents in the area, opinion leaders, senior Police officials, NSCDC and Military officials, Amotekun personnel, Representatives Police Community Relations Committee, vigilante corps, students and youth groups.

Akoko Northeast and North West being border towns have had its share of insecurity ranging from kidnappings to armed robbery.

The Olukare of Ikare Akoko, Oba Akadiri Momoh, who is the chairman, Conference of Obas in Akoko- Northeast, the Akala of Ikaram, the Chairman Conference of Obas, Akoko Northwest, Oba Yisa Olanipekun, Owa of Ogbagi, Oba Victor Adetona commended Bunmi Tunji-Ojo for the initiative.

A communique after the meeting called for synergy between communities leaders and law enforcement agencies to curb the menace of incessant cases of insecurity in the areas.

The communique read in part

“Each local government should have bye-laws for guidance, there should be a recruitment of more police officers especially to the communities, while paramilitary organisations should be encouraged to work with the police.”

“Security should not be politicized, government should make effective use of our forest reserves to prevent kidnappers from using them, job opportunities should be provided for youths.”

Tunji Ojo who was represented by his Legislative Aide, Thalis Apalowo assured that resolutions from the discussion will be immediately addressed to put an end to all forms of crimes in the area

He said the 4 vehicles will be given to the police divisional stations, in Ikare, Ogbagi, Irun, Oke-agbe to further complement efforts of security agents in securing lives and properties.

It would be recalled that the federal lawmaker had earlier facilitated many interventions for his people which include rehabilitation of Oyinmi, ajowa—Akunnu, Arigidi—Okeagbe, Arigidi—Iye And Inland, IKare roads as well as Donated a500KVA Transformer to NTA community, Ikare Akoko.
