Speaking yesterday in Owerri at the Southeast Security Summit, tagged, Community Policing: Rethinking National Security Framework for National Development, the inspector general of Police,(IGP) Ibrahim Idris, has regretted the security challenges besetting the country.
Idris, at the well-attended event, also regretted the Offa robbery of six banks in which about 30 persons, including police officers, were killed and 21 riffles snatched.
He, however, disclosed that 12 suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.
Commenting on the Jos mayhem, Idris stated: “The recent killing in Plateau State where over 200 persons were said to have been killed is a sad commentary in the history of our nation.
However, the IGP has reiterated his commitment to finding solutions to the nation’s security challenges.
He sought the support of the three tiers of government, individuals and corporate outfits to enable the force discharge its constitutional responsibility of securing lives and property as enshrined in Section 4 of the Police Act.
