Former Minister of Women Affairs, Barr. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has clarified that her dismissal from office by President Bola Tinubu was a sacking, not a removal.
Kennedy-Ohanenye was one of five ministers relieved of their positions in October during a cabinet reshuffle. Others included the former Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John; ex-Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman; ex-Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo; and ex-Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim.
In the wake of the reshuffle, the Presidency sought to soften the language surrounding their departure. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, argued that the term “sacked” was not an accurate description of the situation.
However, speaking during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Kennedy-Ohanenye contradicted this narrative. She stated emphatically, “I was sacked, but my vision remains; my visions are not sacked—it still remains.”
The former minister acknowledged that both her appointment and subsequent dismissal were purposeful, though she humorously refrained from speculating on the reasons behind her removal. “I’m not a witch to know why I was sacked,” she quipped.
Despite her departure, Kennedy-Ohanenye’s statement underscores her continued commitment to her goals, signaling that her work and vision extend beyond her time in office.
