I Threw My 10-Month-Old Baby into River – Young Mother Confesses

By: Bayero Ade

A young mother, Blessing Ibuku, has confessed to throwing her 10-month-old son, Prevail Jonathan, into a river in Delta State, following ridicule over his paternity.

Ibuku was presented alongside 30 other suspects accused of various offenses at the Delta State Police Command on Tuesday, December 17.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, confirmed that Ibuku admitted to the crime during questioning. He explained that the baby had been reported missing on December 4, and his body was later discovered in a river in the Aviara community.

“During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the crime, stating that she acted out of frustration after being mocked by her friends, who called her child a ’bastard,’” Olufemi said.

The commissioner added that despite the challenges faced, ongoing collaboration between security agencies and stakeholders has been vital in improving safety in the state.

Ibuku is currently in police custody, and further investigations into the tragic incident are underway.
