How Tinubu Saved Fubara With Emergency Rule Declaration – Wike

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has shared that he wanted Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to be removed, but it was President Bola Tinubu’s action that kept him in office.

Wike made this known in a media chat in Abuja on Friday, explaining his dissatisfaction with the state of emergency declared in Rivers.

On March 18, 2025, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state, which led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy, and the state legislature.

An administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), was appointed to oversee the state during the emergency.

Wike, who has been involved in the ongoing political turmoil in the state, expressed his disappointment with the declaration but acknowledged that it ultimately saved Fubara’s position.

He stated that the governor was in a difficult situation and, without the intervention, would have been removed from office.

Wike suggested that Tinubu’s move was a life-saving act for Fubara, and he believes the president deserves praise for his decision.

Additionally, Wike indicated that he is open to peace talks, although he claimed that Fubara’s advisers are discouraging him from pursuing reconciliation.
