President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was elected in 2015 as the Executive President of Nigeria after unseating Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the then incumbent President under the Peoples Democratic Party. Nigerians elected Buhari to fix the mess in the nation and build on the good legacies of the Jonathan-PDP’s administration. But instead, the opposite was true.

Similarly, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took over in 2023 after eight years’ misrule of Buhari’s administration with rising hope by Nigerians that all will be well. Unfortunately, Nigerian are disappointed that things are getting worst against what they hoped for under Tinubu’s APC led administration, amid rising hunger, poverty, and insecurity in the country.

The APC met fuel at the official price of 87 naira per liter, but today, the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) across the nation have been adjusted by independent marketers to between 650-700 naira per liter after the removal of fuel subsidies by the APC regime.

The ruling APC met dollar at 170 against the naira, but currently, one dollar is now sold for N1,800 in the black market as a result of the bad policies of the APC’s administration. President Tinubu policy to float the naira also worsened the value of the Nigerian currency. The decision of Tinubu to float the naira rather depreciated the value of the naira instead of increasing it. Interventions introduced by the CBN hasn’t arrested the situation as at the time of filing this report.

For those who don’t know, within 9 years of APC’s rule, electricity tariffs have been increased by more than 400 per cent, while the generation of electricity hovers around 3000 to 3,500 megawatts. The power supply is not even stable, amid obnoxious estimated billing system which has increased the cost of living in the nation.

Another scary thing is that the Federal government under the APC regime is now living on loan. The excessive borrowings by the APC administration from Muhammadu Buhari to Bola Tinubu has exposed the future of our dear country to bankruptcy.

The APC regime inherited the fastest growing economy in the world but our economy is presently slipping into recession due to high loan portfolios created by APC regime. The bad policies of the APC regime obviously increased inflation in the Nation. The prices of goods and services are no longer affordable in Nigeria.

The APC regime came and turned conclusive, free and fair election to inconclusive-violent election with day light robbery of people’s mandates in every state of the federation.

Thesame APC government introduced 50 naira stamp duty charges on bank deposit transaction from 1,000 naira and above on our bank accounts thus making life unbearable to the less privileged in the society.

They reintroduced 65 naira ATM bank charges which was stopped by Jonathan’s administration.
They reintroduced COT on our bank current accounts with a new name tag: “account maintenance fee” which was stopped by Jonathan’s administration.

It was under APC regime that Naira Currency also become a scarce commodity in Nigeria. The scarcity of the new banknotes introduced by the Buhari-APC regime shook the nation. The new note was not only scarce, the ugly trend also led to the scarcity of the old note with adverse effects on businesses.

Kidnapping was a major problem under the PDP regime but it has now become a lucrative business in Nigeria under the ruling APC. Under Buhari’s regime, criminal activities of Fulani herdsmen, from killing farmers, raping women to the kidnapping of innocent citizens was unprecedented.

Boko Haram gained more ground, with Nigerian army raising the alarm for lack of good weapons, despite several approvals of biillions of Naira by the government of Buhari to buy arms and amunitions.

Under President Tinubu-APC government, the insecurity in the nation has not faired better and there is no concrete policies yet by the government to walk out of the current cri­sis facing the Nigeria’s economy.

The situation is getting messier every day. Nigerians have lost hope and faith in this current regime despite some interventions by the government to restore hope to the hopeless citizens.

The government of APC has succeeded in increasing our pains and sufferings by their insensitivities to the plight of common Nigerians. The current administration led by Tinubu has now involved itself in blame game against the past administration of Buhari just like Buhari did against Jonathan in his 8 years misrule.

While we call for collaboration among critical stakeholders to rescue Nigeria, we advise the government of Bola Tinubu-APC to seek help from economic expert to address the current challenges in our nation.
