Gunmen Kill Two, Abduct Four on Benue Highway

Tragedy struck on Sunday night when suspected armed herders attacked a commercial vehicle on the Adoka-Otukpo road in Benue State, killing two passengers and abducting four others.

The vehicle, which was reportedly coming from Abuja and heading to Otukpo, was ambushed around 11 p.m., according to local sources. The attackers opened fire on the bus, killing the driver and one other passenger instantly. The vehicle lost control and veered into the bush.

“They shot at the vehicle while it was still moving, killing two people immediately. The others were dragged into the forest by the gunmen,” a resident familiar with the incident said. He added that although the bus originally carried nine passengers from Abuja, some had disembarked in Adoka before the attack.

Otukpo Local Government Chairman, Hon. Maxwell Ogiri, confirmed the attack, stating that six passengers were left in the vehicle at the time. “Sadly, two were killed on the spot and the remaining four were taken away,” he said.

Efforts are ongoing to trace the whereabouts of the kidnapped individuals, according to the local authorities.

When contacted, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Catherine Anene, said the command had not yet received a formal report on the incident.
