Gunmen have abducted nine people, including a newly elected councillor, during a raid on Odo-Ape community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State. The attack occurred around 1 a.m. on Wednesday.
This incident comes just a week after three individuals, including a child, were kidnapped in the same area.
The attackers, who fired sporadically during the raid, took their victims from their homes. Among those abducted are five Gwaris, two Bassa residents, and the councillor, who is the only indigene of Odo-Ape among the captives.
Residents are now gripped by fear as uncertainty looms over who might be targeted next.
A community member, speaking anonymously, urged the state government and security agencies to act swiftly to ensure the victims’ release and prevent further attacks.
Although the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Anya, has yet to issue a statement, a senior government security official confirmed the incident. The official assured that security forces have commenced operations to address the situation and called on residents to remain calm and continue their daily routines.
The abduction has further heightened concerns over the growing insecurity in the area.
