The Forum of Economic Rights Activists (FERA) has voiced strong disagreement with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, over his remarks about President Bola Tinubu’s government.
In recent interviews, Obi criticized Tinubu’s leadership, suggesting that Nigeria’s democracy is under threat and that the administration’s economic policies have failed.
In a statement issued on Friday, Moses Okino, the president of FERA, rejected Obi’s views, particularly regarding the government’s economic policies. Okino argued that Obi overlooked the positive outcomes of ongoing reforms, such as the removal of fuel subsidies, which he argued are crucial for resolving persistent economic challenges.
Okino further challenged Obi’s stance on anti-corruption measures, claiming that significant progress has been made in the areas that Obi had criticized.
The FERA president dismissed Obi’s criticisms as “false” and “misleading,” accusing him of distorting facts to serve his own political agenda.
In the statement, Okino urged Nigerians to carefully assess political narratives and historical records as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.
“It is essential that voters make informed choices based on a thorough understanding of both past leadership and current political debates,” the statement read.
Okino also encouraged politicians to engage with the public transparently and constructively as Nigeria continues to navigate its political and economic challenges.
