A close aide to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Senior Special Reporter with the Ministry of History and Culture, Sadiq Gentle, has died after being brutally attacked by suspected Yandaba thugs in Kano.
The incident, which occurred a few days ago, reportedly involved a violent phone-snatching attempt at his residence. Sadiq sustained multiple machete injuries during the assault and was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he battled for his life before passing away on Thursday morning.
The late journalist’s death has sparked outrage across Kano, particularly among media professionals, civil society groups, and residents, who have condemned the growing wave of criminal activities by youth gangs in the state.
Sadiq Gentle was widely known in media and political circles for his professionalism and commitment to public service. His tragic death has been described as a major blow to the government and the journalism community in Kano.
