Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has expressed his support for the Supreme Court’s recent decision to invalidate Julius Abure’s leadership of the Labour Party, describing it as a positive step towards restoring peace and order within the party.
The Supreme Court ruling, which ousted Julius Abure as the national chairman, was widely reported yesterday by AFRIPOST.
Reacting to the court’s verdict, Governor Otti emphasized that the judgment validates the legitimacy of the current leadership of the Labour Party. He explained that the Abure-led National Working Committee had overstayed its mandate, leading to the establishment of a National Caretaker Committee, now chaired by Esther Nenadi Usman, with Darlington Nwokocha serving as secretary.
Otti further highlighted that the interim committee was formed to foster unity and strengthen the party’s structure, particularly in the aftermath of its performance in the most recent general elections.
He commended the Supreme Court for delivering a fair and much-anticipated ruling, and also expressed gratitude to party members who remained loyal throughout the internal conflict.
In a call for reconciliation, Governor Otti urged the former leadership to collaborate with the National Executive Committee and the National Caretaker Committee to fortify the party.
He reassured that the current leadership is committed to building a more inclusive and equitable Labour Party.
