The Plateau State government has begun investigation into the sudden death of 36 cows in Zanwar community, Bassa Local Government Area.
The cows were said to have died on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, after grazing on garden eggs suspected to be poisoned.
The animals reportedly ate the garden eggs that were scattered around the Tafi Gana junction grazing area.
Local herders said the garden eggs may have been deliberately placed there to harm the cattle.
The incident raised concerns among members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in the area, who said the cows belonged to a herder identified as Mallam Samaila Nuhu.
In response to the matter, Governor Caleb Mutfwang directed the Ministry of Livestock Development, Veterinary Services, and Fisheries to carry out a full investigation.
The goal is to find out what led to the deaths and whether the poisoning was intentional.
This incident happened just days after suspected herdsmen killed over 50 residents of Kwall community, adding to the rising tension in the region.
Similar attacks were reported in Bokkos two weeks earlier, where several communities were invaded.
While the government works to uncover the truth, it has called for calm among residents and urged everyone to allow the investigation to proceed without interference.
Efforts are also ongoing to promote peace and understanding among all groups living in Plateau State.
