Prominent activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has voiced strong criticism regarding the recent resignation of Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.
In a shocking revelation made on his Facebook page on Monday evening, Sowore asserted that Abubakar did not resign voluntarily; rather, he was compelled to step aside by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make way for the appointment of former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as the new Defence Minister.
Sowore also highlighted concerns regarding the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, suggesting that there are strong indications that the U.S. military is advocating for his removal as well. He pointed to serious issues related to intelligence sharing and collaboration, which have reportedly raised alarm bells among U.S. officials.
Matawalle has faced significant scrutiny and allegations of having connections with bandits in Zamfara, further complicating the security landscape in Nigeria. Sowore’s comments reflect a broader frustration with the effectiveness of Nigeria’s military leadership in addressing ongoing security challenges in the country.
