Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has initiated an investigation into complaints surrounding a poorly executed road project in Aduramigba Community, located in the Ido-Osun axis of the state.
This action follows a peaceful protest by residents on Friday, who voiced their dissatisfaction over the standard of work done on the 4.76-kilometre stretch. Carrying placards with messages like “We reject roads without drainage” and “No to corruption in our community,” the protesters called for urgent government intervention.
Community leader, Sunday Ogundele, criticized the quality of the road during the demonstration, stating that it lacked a functional drainage system.
“The contractor began laying asphalt on Sunday and Monday, but a downpour on Thursday washed away parts of the road. That tells you how bad the job was,” Ogundele said.
In a statement released by the Governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, it was revealed that top officials from the Ministry of Works, Ministry of Rural Development, and the Osun Rural Access and Mobility Project had already visited the community for an inspection, following the governor’s directive.
The officials assured residents that immediate steps would be taken to evaluate the work and initiate necessary corrections.
According to the statement, the team was also instructed to interact with the contractor and project supervisors to gather information and assess the situation thoroughly.
“The governor has asked the team to report back by Monday with findings and recommendations for further action. In addition to reviewing the road work, the state government is also considering other developmental priorities for the community,” the statement read.
