Four dead, 14 injured in Abia auto crash

A fatal accident along the Umuahia-Enugu Expressway has resulted in the deaths of four individuals, while 14 others sustained injuries.

The Abia Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday.

According to Sector Commander Ngozi Ezeoma, the crash occurred at the Ohiya Mechanic area of the expressway on Friday at around 2:01 p.m.

Initial findings indicate that a burst tyre and excessive speed caused the vehicle to somersault several times.

The accident involved a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus operated by Ebonyi Transport Corporation.

The bus was carrying 18 passengers—11 men and seven women.

One female passenger lost her life at the scene, while the others were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia.

Sadly, two men and another woman later succumbed to their injuries, increasing the total number of fatalities to four.

Ezeoma extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a quick recovery.

She also urged motorists to prioritize road safety, reaffirming the FRSC’s dedication to reducing road accidents.
