Former Sokoto Governor Bafarawa Resigns from PDP to Focus on Youth Empowerment

Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, a former two-term governor of Sokoto State, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a resignation letter dated January 8, 2025, and addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum, Bafarawa stated that his decision was motivated by his dedication to youth empowerment.

According to Politics Nigeria, the letter was formally received at the PDP national secretariat on January 13.

Bafarawa disclosed that he would now dedicate his efforts to the Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative (NSYEI), an organisation he co-founded in late 2024 to tackle youth unemployment and promote self-reliance. The initiative, launched at Arewa House in Kaduna, seeks to foster entrepreneurship and create opportunities for Northern youth to become more self-sufficient.

“I have decided to channel my energy toward creating awareness and driving youth empowerment programmes to reduce redundancy and foster productivity,” Bafarawa said in his statement.

He expressed his gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities afforded him during his tenure with the party and wished its leadership all the best for the future.

Bafarawa’s resignation reflects his commitment to addressing socio-economic challenges through youth-focused initiatives, marking a transition from active party politics to community development.
