Dr. Paul Orhii, a former Director-General of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has formally resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and declared his allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Orhii, who was a governorship aspirant under the PDP in Benue State in both the 2019 and 2023 elections, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the PDP Atirkyese Council Ward Chairman in Benue State.
The former NAFDAC boss said his decision followed “intensive consultations” with his family, supporters, and political associates at home and abroad. He cited the need to align with like-minded Nigerians under the ADC platform, which he described as being on a “rescue mission.”
“After intensive consultations with my family, friends, thousands of my supporters and political associates locally, nationally, and globally, I have decided to resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect,” Orhii stated in his letter.
“This is to enable me join the coalition of other progressive-minded Nigerians in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on the rescue mission,” he added.
While bidding farewell to the PDP, Orhii expressed gratitude to the party for the platform it provided him over the years, including the opportunity to serve at the federal level.
“I truly remain eternally grateful to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that gave me the opportunity to serve my country Nigeria at the highest level,” he said.
Orhii’s defection comes at a time when the PDP is grappling with a series of high-profile resignations amid internal divisions. Political observers say his move to the ADC could signal growing momentum for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
