Ondo State has been embroiled in heated controversy following an open letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by five Federal Lawmakers from the state.

The open letter to President Tinubu was signed by six lawmakers, namely, Adesida Abiodun Cornelius (Akure North/South), Timehin Adelegbe (Owo/Ose), Festus Ayodele (Ileoluji-Okeigbo/Odigbo), Ojogo Donald (Ilaje/Ese-Odo), Odimayo Okunjimi (Okitipupa/Irele), and Adegboyega Adefarati (Akoko South West/South East).

They alleged that Mr. Aiyedatiwa is creating a crisis in the ruling All Progressives Party, APC,  as well as exhibiting disdain for his predecessor, the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and ex-Ondo Governor.

In the letter, they called President Tinubu to intervene by calling Governor Aiyedatiwa to order before he ignites a crisis that would cost the party the forthcoming 2024 governorship poll in the state.

The lawmakers told the president that the governor has been associating with arch political enemies of his late predecessor and even cozying up to the opposition party.

Part of the statement reads, “the Deputy Governor appointed by Mr. Aiyedatiwa is a well-known political adversary of the late Governor. Despite hailing from Owo, they never saw eye to eye during the late Governor’s lifetime. Olajide Adelami caused a great deal of trouble for the late Akeredolu during his bid for re-election in 2020 to which you were committed.

“Furthermore, it has become common knowledge in the state that Mr. Aiyedatiwa has aligned himself with every disgruntled and established political enemy of the late Akeredolu. As example, the appointment of Kola Olawoye, a suspended APC member and former Attorney General of the state, as Aiyedatiwa’s campaign coordinator in Owo has been widely condemned by loyal party members, particularly in Owo,” the letter stated.

As a reputable and unbiased medium, the allegations were deeply x-rayed by Starnews NG observers and it was barefacedly discovered that the lawmakers passed the wrong verdict against the incumbent Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Aiyedatiwa who was sworn-in after the demise of his boss as Governor, is turning around the fortunes of the state through audacious steps considered by many as timely.

Even when the accusers are not oblivious that the protest letter is politically motivated and targeted at Aiyedatiwa, it is imperative to state objectively that the Governor within his short stint, has done a yeoman’s job.

For instance, Starnews NG can report that the new administration has paid pensioners’ entitlements and embarked on roads rehabilitation, while negotiating with Organised Labour in the state to address workers needs and demands, among others.

Apart from the aforementioned development, the Governor has hugely changed the erroneously held narratives by extending olive branch to the black sheep who used their power illegally enshrined to suck out life out of Aiyedatiwa when he was the Deputy Governor.

That’s not all, the Governor recently flagged off the construction of three access roads to farms across the three senatorial districts of the state in order to ensure food security in Ondo State.

Similarly, the state government under his leadership has approved an action plan to find lasting and sustainable solution to the incessant ocean surge in Aiyetoro community in Ilaje local government area of the State.

Recall that Starnews NG had in April 2023 produced a documentary and aired its opinion to draw the attention of both the state and federal governments and demanded urgent intervention on the ravaging sea surge in Ayetoro community of Ilaje Local government area of Ondo State.

Starnews NG urges the Federal Lawmakers not to retrogress the state back to its former state when some political gladiators turned the state to a battle ground.

Since some of the accusing lawmakers are having same ambitions as Governor Aiyedatiwa, it shows their gathering is politically motivated, the letter is baseless and unnecessary – an attempt to discredit the governor ahead of the APC primary election.

It is the opinion of this Newspaper that Governor Aiyedatiwa should be allowed to fully concentrate on his job as the verdict against him is preposterous.

Starnews NG advises his accusers to refrain from inflammatory comments and allow the state residents to enjoy the tranquillity in the political landscape of Ondo State.
