Fire Guts Building Materials Plaza in Anambra

A fire outbreak early Tuesday morning destroyed a two-storey building housing a building materials plaza at Ahia-Mgbede, opposite the Motor Spare Parts Market in Nnewi North Local Government Area, Anambra State.

According to Afripost, firefighters successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby shops in the Uruagu section of the market.

Confirming the incident, the Chief Fire Officer of the Anambra State Fire Service, Chukwudi Chiketa, said his team received a distress call around 2:15 a.m.

“We immediately dispatched personnel from the Nnewi and Ogidi Fire Stations to the scene,” Chiketa stated.

Despite efforts to control the fire, it reignited, requiring additional measures to fully extinguish it. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

No lives were lost in the incident. Chiketa urged residents to adopt preventive measures to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks.
