A fire broke out in the early morning at a female hostel situated on Imgbi Road within the premises of the State Medical University.

The incident was triggered by an electrical spark when a student was ironing her clothes, resulting in the rapid spread of flames and causing panic among the residents.

The student promptly raised the alarm, alerting her fellow students and prompting a hurried search for safety.

Swift action was taken as personnel from both the Federal and Bayelsa State Fire Services promptly arrived at the scene to address the emergency.

Fortunately, their quick response prevented the fire from spreading to other rooms in the building.

Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu, the Vice Chancellor of the State Medical University, along with Phillip Diete-Spiff, the Chief Security Officer, expressed their deep gratitude to the fire service officials for their efficient and timely intervention.

Thankfully, no casualties or physical injuries were reported among the students. However, the fire resulted in the destruction of personal belongings owned by the occupants of the affected rooms.
