FG Rolls Out CNG Buses to Ease Transport Woes

The Nigerian government has taken steps to tackle transportation difficulties linked to the removal of the petrol subsidy.

At the launch of the Renewed Hope Transport Scheme in Abuja, 16 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses were handed over to key transport unions, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO).

This initiative aims to promote the use of CNG as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly fuel option. CNG-powered vehicles offer commuters a cleaner alternative and are expected to help reduce transportation costs.

The move aligns with the government’s broader energy plan, which focuses on leveraging Nigeria’s vast natural gas reserves of over 209 trillion cubic feet.

By prioritizing CNG adoption, the administration seeks to support the transport sector and drive economic growth while advancing energy security and sustainability goals.

This development is part of Nigeria’s Decade of Gas initiative, which positions natural gas as a key resource in the country’s energy transition efforts.
