Federal Lawmaker Defects To APGA

Clara Nnabuife, who represents Orumba North/South federal constituency in Anambra State, has left the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Her decision was announced on the floor of the House of Representatives during Thursday’s plenary session.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu read Nnabuife’s letter, confirming her departure from the YPP.

Nnabuife explained that she left the party because she felt left out of its activities.

After consulting widely with her constituents, she decided to switch her political allegiance to APGA.

This move was one of several defections that have recently shaken the house.

In recent months, a growing number of lawmakers have left their parties for others.

On October 2, Chris Nkwonta, representing Ukwa East/Ukwa West in Abia State, left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sulaiman Abubakar from Zamfara State also switched to the APC later that month.

December saw a similar trend when four Labour Party (LP) lawmakers and one from PDP crossed over to APC.

In February, two PDP lawmakers, Amos Magaji from Kaduna and Garba Koko from Kebbi, followed suit. Most cited internal problems in their former parties as the reason for their defection.

Most recently, on March 18, PDP members Jallo Mohammed from Kaduna and Adamu Tanko from Niger State left the party as well.

The wave of defections shows an ongoing shift in political alliances in the House.
