The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has closed Dada’s Clinic and Maternity Ltd, an unregistered medical facility operating in Kapwa, Gaube Community, Kuje Area Council.
The closure took place on Sunday following an inspection by the Private Health Establishments Registration and Monitoring Committee (PHERMC).
According to Lere Olayinka, senior special assistant on public communications and social media to the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, the facility was sealed after it was discovered that it had been running without proper registration.
A man identified as Sabiu, who claimed to be the health worker in charge, was detained and handed over to the police for further investigation.
The inspection team, led by the director of the medical and diagnostics department, acted on the instructions of the mandate secretary for health and environment, Adedolapo Fasawe.
The investigation was prompted by reports that the clinic was conducting medical procedures in an unsuitable rented apartment under the pretense of a medical outreach.
Tragically, a community elder died after undergoing a hernia operation at the clinic.
There were also reports of other patients who narrowly survived procedures and needed urgent medical attention elsewhere.
The facility itself was in poor condition, lacking basic amenities such as windows, doors, a reception area, and proper sanitation.
At the time of the visit, three patients were admitted, including an elderly person receiving intravenous treatment.
All patients were found to be stable and were referred to Kuje General Hospital for appropriate care.
