Some residents of parts of Akokoland in Ondo State, heaved sigh of relief as the first rainfall of the year dropped around 7 p.m. yesterday.

The downpour brought joy to communities such as Afin, Okeagbe, Oyin, and Ese in Akoko North West Local Area of the State.

Although farmers noted that the rain was not particularly beneficial for planting, noting that it will helpe ease the prevailing harsh weather conditions.

Speaking with the Secretary of the Farmers’ Congress in Akoko North West Local Government, Mrs. Adamolekun Juliana, advised farmers against using the rainfall for planting, assuring them that more suitable rains would come soon.

She said, “I advise farmers not to start planting with this rain because it is not the right time. More rain will come soon, and it will be more suitable for farming.

“Planting too early may lead to poor crop growth, as the soil may not have received enough moisture for seeds to germinate properly.

“Rain is a blessing from God, and I believe He will make this year a fruitful one. With patience and proper timing, farmers will enjoy a bountiful harvest.

“It is important to follow expert advice and wait for the right rainfall pattern to ensure successful farming. Rushing into planting now could lead to losses, as the rain might not be consistent yet.

“This rainfall is mainly to reduce the hot weather, not for farming. It has brought relief to many residents who have been experiencing intense heat in recent weeks. However, farmers should see it as a sign that better rains are on the way rather than an immediate opportunity to plant.
