Elon Musk retracts claim linking Trump to Epstein files

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has erased a controversial claim he made online, in which he alleged that former U.S. President Donald Trump was mentioned in confidential government documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, the financier who died in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.

The post, shared on Musk’s platform X on Thursday, came during an increasingly hostile exchange between Musk and Trump.

The tech mogul had only recently stepped down from his advisory position within the Trump administration.

In his now-deleted message, Musk stated, “Time to drop the really big bomb: (Trump) is in the Epstein files,” implying that the former president’s name appears in unreleased records tied to Epstein’s associates.

He further suggested this was the reason the documents have not been made public.

Musk did not provide any supporting evidence or clarify which files he was referring to.

He briefly reinforced his claim in a follow-up post urging users to “mark this post for the future,” hinting that the information would eventually come to light. Both posts were removed from his account by Saturday.

Trump’s supporters — especially those aligned with conspiracy theories — have long suspected a cover-up involving Epstein’s connections to powerful individuals.

While critics often focus on celebrities and Democratic figures, Trump is typically excluded from such narratives. No verified information has ever confirmed Trump’s involvement in the case.

Trump, who once maintained a social relationship with Epstein, has denied visiting Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, a location allegedly used for the exploitation of minors.

In earlier interviews, Trump described Epstein as “a lot of fun” and remarked on his interest in young women.

Just a week earlier, Trump had publicly praised Musk following his exit from the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where Musk had pushed for cost-cutting reforms.

But their relationship soured rapidly after Musk condemned a key spending proposal associated with Trump’s agenda, describing the bill as a disaster.

The disagreement soon escalated into a very public clash, with Trump responding angrily from the Oval Office.

The dispute captivated both Washington insiders and social media observers, as two of the world’s most influential figures traded blows.

Despite brief speculation that they might reconcile, the White House later dismissed any reports of an upcoming meeting between the pair.
