El-Rufai: APC group urges unity to prevent further defections

The APC Professional Network has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to address internal issues that could lead to more members leaving the party.

In a statement released in Abuja on Saturday, the network’s president, Victor Oluwafemi, emphasized the importance of maintaining party unity, particularly in light of former Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s recent defection.

Oluwafemi acknowledged el-Rufai’s key role in the party’s development and noted that his exit has sparked discussions on party loyalty, consistency, and the level of commitment required to strengthen APC.

While respecting el-Rufai’s decision to switch to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Oluwafemi stressed that the situation could still be resolved and urged APC leaders to take proactive steps to reinforce internal cohesion.

“We encourage our party leadership to foster unity and tackle concerns that may trigger further defections. Now, more than ever, APC must exhibit strong leadership and solidarity,” he said.

Reaffirming the APC Professional Network’s dedication to the party’s goals, he assured members of the network’s commitment to promoting good governance, accountability, and national development.

He urged party members to remain steadfast and focused on advancing APC’s vision.

“We remain devoted to the ideals of the APC and will continue to engage constructively to ensure the party remains strong and united,” he added.

El-Rufai, a founding member of APC, announced his departure on Monday, citing concerns over the party’s internal structure and governance.

He accused the party of sidelining its structures and disregarding its members, which influenced his decision to seek a new political platform aligned with his principles.
