A former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Donald Amerijoye, has officially resigned his membership of the party, citing irreconcilable internal crises and a loss of ideological direction. He has now pitched his tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Amerijoye, who also served as a youth leader within the PDP, conveyed his resignation in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 9 in Ikole Local Government Area, Mr. Sunday Ibitoye. A copy of the letter was made available to newsmen over the weekend.
In the letter, Amerijoye said the decision to part ways with the PDP was not taken lightly but became inevitable due to what he described as the party’s prolonged internal wrangling and failure to uphold its foundational ideals.
“Yet, there comes a time when silence becomes betrayal and staying becomes a disservice—not just to self, but to the nation,” he wrote, invoking biblical references to underscore the moral weight of his decision.
He added that the PDP, once a symbol of democratic hope, had degenerated into “an echo chamber of self-interest and lethargic leadership,” lamenting the apparent disconnect between the party’s actions and the pressing needs of Nigerians.
While distancing his resignation from personal grievances, Amerijoye said his defection to the ADC was a conscious choice to align with a vision of national recovery and restructuring, which he believes is being championed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“That vision, now finding new expression under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is the path I have chosen to follow—unwaveringly, wholeheartedly, and with every fiber of my being,” he declared.
He emphasized that his move was an act of responsibility and not of bitterness. “When the house is burning, one does not continue to sing its anthems. One joins the rescue,” he concluded.
Amerijoye’s defection is the latest in a series of notable exits from the PDP in Ekiti, further raising concerns over the party’s cohesion and future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
