The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is currently looking into claims that former militant leader Chief Government Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, misused Nigerian currency during a recent event.
The investigation started after a video showing Tompolo throwing ₦1,000 notes into the air at his 54th birthday celebration went viral, sparking strong public reactions.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede explained that the commission is examining the video carefully through forensic methods to determine its authenticity.
He stated that no one should jump to conclusions about Tompolo’s guilt until the investigation is complete.
According to the chairman, every Nigerian deserves a fair chance to respond and the legal process must be respected.
The EFCC has already reached out to Tompolo for questioning, as there are calls from the public for the commission to take action based on the footage.
The agency reminded everyone that no individual is above the law, but at this stage, the claim remains unproven.
The final decision will come only after the review is finished and all facts are clear.
