EFCC Charges Businessman with N14.9 Million Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought charges against Habu Gambo, also known as Abubakar Gambo, for allegedly defrauding a victim of N14,907,000.

According to Afripost, the case was heard before Justice Mashkur Salisu at the Federal High Court in Jalingo, Taraba State. According to the charge, Gambo deceived Sanusi Gado between November 2020 and February 2022, falsely claiming that the funds were intended for a grain business.

The EFCC accused Gambo of knowing that the claim was false, which led to charges under Section 1(1)(b) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006.

Upon hearing the charges, Gambo pleaded not guilty. Prosecutor SE Okemini requested a trial date, while Gambo’s defense lawyer, Sale Abdullahi, filed for bail. However, the prosecution objected, pointing out that the defendant had previously failed to comply with an administrative bail granted by the EFCC.

Justice Salisu ordered Gambo to be remanded in the Jalingo Correctional Centre and set the trial to begin on February 20, 2025.

An EFCC representative remarked, “This case underscores our unwavering commitment to holding fraudsters accountable and ensuring justice for victims.”
