The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has outlined its ongoing efforts, in collaboration with INTERPOL, to track down and apprehend those responsible for the collapse of the digital investment platform CBEX, which is accused of defrauding Nigerian investors of over N1.3 billion.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, shared this update on Tuesday, revealing that the commission had already begun investigating CBEX’s operations before the platform’s sudden downfall.
He noted that after the collapse, many affected Nigerians took to social media to express their frustrations, complaining about the disappearance of their funds. Some individuals even stormed CBEX’s Lagos office, seizing abandoned assets in the process.
Oyewale reassured the public, emphasizing that the EFCC is committed to pursuing both local and international suspects involved in the scheme.
“We are collaborating with relevant agencies and INTERPOL to ensure the perpetrators face justice,” he stated. “Wherever recoveries are possible, we will act. Where prosecution is necessary, we will take appropriate steps.”
He also highlighted that CBEX is not the only fraudulent platform under scrutiny, urging Nigerians to exercise caution when considering investments in any financial institution.
Oyewale further recommended that Nigerians verify financial platforms through regulatory bodies such as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) before making any investments.
