The suspended Edo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, has rejected allegations of financial misconduct, insisting that he is innocent.
On Wednesday, Governor Monday Okpehbolo suspended Osagie along with the Chairman of the Edo State Local Government Service Commission, Damian Lawani, over alleged official and financial infractions.
The suspension was confirmed in a letter dated February 5, 2025, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor.
The governor also ordered the formation of a committee to investigate the claims and provide recommendations.
In response, Osagie issued a statement on Thursday denying any involvement in financial misconduct. He stated that he had never engaged in any financial dealings with anyone and was not guilty of any wrongdoing.
He also claimed that no one confronted him with the allegations before the suspension was made public.
Osagie emphasized his commitment to defending himself, expressing confidence that he would prove his innocence.
He described the allegations as an attack on his reputation and years of hard work, adding that he was prepared to clear his name.
The investigation committee is expected to review the claims and present its findings to the government.
