Edo 2024: Major roads blocked in Benin-City as soldiers deployed

A strong security presence was evident across Benin City on election day, with soldiers deployed at various locations blocking major roads early in the morning. As a result, voters had to walk long distances to reach their polling stations.

On Sakponba Road, our correspondent reported that security personnel began cordoning off the main road with tires as early as 4 a.m.

Early commuters heading to polling stations faced thorough searches before being allowed to continue. By 6 a.m., however, all roads were completely closed, forcing those familiar with alternative routes to navigate through side streets to reach their destinations.

Individuals providing essential services were allowed to pass but only after undergoing rigorous scrutiny and searches.
