Defamation: Ighodalo Sues Edo APC Chairman for ₦500m

Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the PDP candidate in the last Edo governorship election, has taken legal action against Jarret Tenebe, the acting APC chairman in Edo.

He filed a ₦500 million defamation suit at the Lagos State High Court, claiming Tenebe made damaging allegations against him in a viral video shared on December 10, 2024.

In the video, Tenebe accused Ighodalo of corruption and misuse of public funds.

The accusations were reportedly linked to a budget presentation error made by Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Before the lawsuit, Ighodalo’s lawyers demanded an apology and retraction, but Tenebe, through his legal team, denied any wrongdoing and refused to comply.

Tenebe’s lawyers cited past reports that allegedly implicated Ighodalo in financial mismanagement as their defense.

Ighodalo insisted the video harmed his reputation and caused personal distress, with many questioning the claims.

He is asking the court to order Tenebe to issue a public apology within seven days of the ruling. The hearing is set for March 5, 2025.
