The Cross River State House of Assembly has removed the suspension imposed on the councilor representing Ajassor Ward in Etung Local Government Area.
The councilor had been suspended months ago due to allegations of misconduct but was reinstated after a report from the House Committee on Local Government cleared him of the charges.
During the same plenary session, lawmakers called on the state government to pay the salaries and entitlements of Forest Rangers, who were employed nine months ago but have yet to receive any payment.
The lawmakers expressed concern over the poor working conditions of the rangers, stressing their vital role in protecting the state’s forest reserves.
The rangers are key in preventing illegal logging and safeguarding biodiversity.
The motion, which received broad support, urged both the Ministry of Climate Change and Forestry and the Office of the Accountant General to take swift action on the matter.
In his address, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, assured that the Assembly remains dedicated to good governance, transparency, and ensuring the welfare of the people.
He stated that the decisions made were in the best interest of the citizens and emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to upholding fairness and justice in governance.
