A Kano State High Court has delayed its ruling in the legal case involving the former governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and seven others.
The case, which was heard on Tuesday, involves serious accusations of bribery and mismanagement of public funds amounting to billions of naira.
The Kano State Government had earlier filed an eight-count charge against Ganduje, his wife Hafsat Umar, and others including Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, as well as three companies—Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lasage General Enterprises Limited.
During the court session, several legal teams representing the accused presented different applications.
Most of them challenged the authority of the court to hear the case.
They submitted various documents, including affidavits and legal addresses, as part of their arguments.
The defence lawyers requested the court to allow them more time to present their arguments and insisted the case should not proceed until the court confirms it has the right to handle it.
On the other hand, lawyers representing the state government opposed the defence’s requests.
They submitted counter documents and asked the court to reject the applications, saying they were not convincing enough.
After listening to all sides, the presiding judge, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu, agreed to give the defendants more time.
She also announced that the court’s ruling on the preliminary objections would be given at a later date, which will be communicated to all involved parties.
