The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that its forthcoming National Convention will proceed as scheduled despite a recent court judgment relating to internal party disputes.
In a statement issued on Friday, the party maintained that no court order has restrained it from holding the convention, describing rumours suggesting otherwise as “deliberate misinformation sponsored by political detractors.”
PDP National Publicity Secretary, [insert name if known], said the party remains committed to due process and internal democracy, adding that the leadership has obtained legal advice confirming that the judgment in question does not affect preparations for the exercise.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the PDP is not under any judicial restraint stopping the conduct of its National Convention,” the statement read.
“The party respects the judiciary, but we will not allow mischief makers and sponsored agents to mislead our members or destabilise our democratic processes.”
According to the PDP, all convention committees remain fully operational, while delegates nationwide are expected to arrive at the venue as scheduled.
The party urged its members and supporters to disregard “false reports and propaganda aimed at sowing confusion” and reaffirmed its readiness to “reinvent and strengthen the PDP ahead of future elections.”
The PDP also called on security agencies to investigate those it accused of “political sabotage and destabilization attempts,” promising that the convention will be peaceful, transparent and compliant with all legal requirements.
“We are determined to reposition our party and rescue Nigeria. No amount of distraction will derail this historic democratic exercise,” the statement added.
The National Convention is expected to produce new leadership and set the strategic direction of the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
