A Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square has declared former police officer, Aremu Musiliu, wanted in connection with the 2015 shooting death of a woman, Comfort Udoh.
Musiliu is accused of killing Comfort on September 16, 2015, at Ijegun Bus Stop after allegedly attempting to extort N2,000 from her husband, Pastor Godwin Udoh, a cleric with the Full Gospel Church of God. The couple and their four children were returning from a church programme in a tricycle when the incident occurred.
According to reports, Aremu and other officers stopped the family and demanded money. When Pastor Udoh said he had none, an argument reportedly ensued, during which Musiliu opened fire. Comfort was shot in the head and died on the spot, while her husband sustained injuries to the jaw and shoulder.
Though Aremu was dismissed from the police force and initially detained, he was granted bail in 2017 under controversial circumstances. Despite several court orders, he failed to return for trial and has since gone into hiding.
On April 9, 2025, Justice S.I. Sonaike of Court 29, Criminal Division, issued a formal arrest warrant, declaring him wanted. “The defendant is hereby declared wanted by the court for the offence of murder and is to be apprehended wherever he may be found,” the judge ruled.
The development follows multiple delays in prosecuting the case, with Justice O.A. Taiwo previously criticising the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for poor handling of the matter.
According to a legal advisory signed by Assistant Chief Counsel Taiwo Lambo, Aremu admitted to firing at the tricycle, which led to the fatal shooting and injury.
Speaking emotionally to the press, Pastor Udoh appealed to Nigerians for support. “I’m barely surviving. I’ve been told to leave my home because I can’t afford the rent. My children are out of school. I’m pleading with well-meaning Nigerians to help us seek justice.”
