For the first time since the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was founded, the South-West zone is set to produce the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Daily Independent has gathered.

Highly placed sources confided in our correspondent that barring any last minutes change of minds, the Southwest, which currently have the Deputy National Chairman (South), Treasurer and Deputy National Publicity Secretary, will take two of the positions in the North Central.

The positions are National Publicity Secretary and Deputy National Secretary as well as one other National Working Committee (NWC) position and one Deputy National Officer.

Seven NWC positions will be coming to the South. They are, Deputy Chairman, Secretary, Woman Leader, Publicity Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Financial Secretary and Auditor.

Four positions of deputy national officers will also move to the South. They include; Deputy Treasurer, Deputy Legal Adviser, Deputy Youth Leader and Deputy Organising Secretary.

It will be recalled that the South-West was almost getting the PDP Publicity Secretary in 2016, until the Port-Harcourt convention was suspended, owing to legal issues.

Consequently, a Caretaker Committee was appointed and Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who was the representative of the South-West in the Caretaker Committee was made spokesperson of the party.

However, with the movement of all positions in the North to the South and those being held in the South to the North, the source said the coast is now clear for the PDP to have a substantive spokesperson from the South-West zone.

The source disclosed further that the two zones of South-South and South-East have produced the party’s Publicity Secretary, with the South-South holding the position twice and South-East once.

Daily Independent investigation revealed that the South-South produced the current Cross River State Chairman of the PDP, Venatius Ikem and late John Odey as PDP National Publicity Secretary while the South-East produced Olisa Metuh who held office from 2012 to 2016.

Another source, who preferred anonymity because he was not authorised to speak said that the South-South will likely produce the National Secretary and while South-East will produce the Deputy National Chairman (South).

The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting has been fixed for Thursday, this week.

This was disclosed in a statement by the party’s National Secretary, Umaru Tsauri, on Sunday in Abuja.

Tsauri said the 94th NEC meeting, which will hold at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, will discuss crucial matters.

“All members are enjoined to attend as the meeting will discuss crucial matters,” he said.

It is expected that decision of the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi led Zoning Committee will be ratified at the NEC meeting.
