In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a 27-year-old chicken seller, Alozie John, attempted to end his life after being overwhelmed by a debt of N1.2 million owed to a livestock supplier in Umunnachi, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Alozie, a native of Ebonyi State, reportedly drank a poisonous substance, believing it would bring a merciful end to his despair.
His tragic act was discovered after he sent a WhatsApp message to the police, revealing his desperation and his fear that the burden of his debt was too much to bear.
Fortunately, the police, acting swiftly, managed to rescue him in time.
He was immediately provided with medical assistance and placed under close supervision to prevent any further attempts on his life.
The police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that Alozie’s mother has been contacted and is now aiding the authorities in ensuring he receives the necessary care and psychological support.
This distressing incident sheds light on the extreme pressures faced by small business owners struggling under the weight of financial obligations.
