Multiple people died in Nashville after a small plane crashed near an interstate highway, leading to closure of lanes on the busy stretch on Monday night, police officials said. A single-engine plane crashed adjacent to Interstate 40 on a grassy median near a Costco store in the western part of the city, the Metro Nashville Police Department said. The Federal Government has installed 30-second biometric clearance gates for the Nigeria Immigration Service at the international airports in the country. The gates are expected to be ready at these airports by March 2024. The international airports in Nigeria where the facilities would be installed are Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Port Harcourt International Airport, and Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu. When put to use, the gates would provide seamless clearance services for passengers entering the country through any of the international airports.

A woman of Nigerian lineage, Dr Chidinma Thompson, has been appointed as the first black Justice of The Kings Court Of the Bench In Canada. A post on X (formerly Twitter) by the Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) on Saturday confirmed Dr Chidinma’s appointment. The post said Dr Chidinma became the first black judge on Friday. The post reads: “Yesterday, February 16, 2024, in Calgary, Canada, Nigeria made history again. BREAKING: UK economy slips into recession
The UK economy has slipped into recession as households cut back on spending in response to soaring interest rates and rising cos of living. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said gross domestic product (GDP) fell by a larger than expected 0.3% in the three months to December after a decline in all main sectors of the economy and a collapse in retail sales in the run-up to Christmas.
