A two-storey building under construction in the Ikota area of Lekki, Lagos, collapsed on Tuesday, leaving several workers trapped beneath the rubble.
Emergency response teams, including officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the police, swiftly arrived at the scene to carry out search and rescue operations.
As of now, two victims have been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to locate others still trapped. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28.
Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Adedotun Keshinro, confirmed that the agency’s disaster management team is collaborating with personnel from the Eti-Osa Police Division and other emergency responders.
“A distress call was received from residents reporting the collapse of a two-storey building under construction in the Ikota area of Lekki, around 3:00 p.m., trapping workers inside,” Keshinro said.
He assured that rescue operations would persist until all those affected are accounted for.
