The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State.
Soludo’s victory was officially announced on Sunday after the completion of the collation exercise at the commission’s headquarters in Awka, the state capital.
According to the final results released by INEC, the incumbent governor polled a total of 422,664 votes to defeat his closest rival, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 99,445 votes to come second.
The candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Paul Chukwuma, garnered 37,753 votes, while the Labour Party’s George Moghalu secured 10,576 votes.
Similarly, John Nwosu, who contested under the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC), polled 8,208 votes.
INEC had earlier reported that 99.4% of the election results had been uploaded on its Result Viewing Portal (IReV) before the official declaration, with Soludo maintaining a commanding lead throughout the collation process.
The election, which was largely peaceful, witnessed massive voter turnout across the 21 local government areas of the state, with observers commending the electoral body for the timely deployment of materials and the improved functionality of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
Following the announcement, jubilations erupted in parts of Awka and other major towns as APGA supporters celebrated Soludo’s re-election victory.
Meanwhile, INEC has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and credibility in future elections, urging political parties and candidates to abide by democratic principles and respect the will of the people.
