An Allied Air Cargo aircraft, registered 5N-JRT, skidded off Runway 22 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Wednesday after suffering a tyre burst during landing.

Following the incident, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) temporarily closed the runway for safety reasons.

The aircraft, which had five crew members on board, came to a stop off the runway. Fortunately, all crew members were safely evacuated, with no injuries or fatalities reported.

Emergency response teams arrived promptly at the scene, and efforts to clear the runway are underway. The disruption led to delays in several departing flights as authorities worked to resolve the situation.

In a statement, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, confirmed that the incident occurred at 10:05 am on December 11, 2024. She added that the five individuals on board were safely evacuated and transported to the FAN clinic for medical checks.

The statement also reassured the public that the airport’s emergency teams and accident investigators are on-site, working to reopen the runway as soon as possible.

FAAN thanked both the aviation community and the general public for their patience and understanding during the incident.
