The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Akure has affirmed the electoral victory of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, declaring that his election on November 16, 2024, was valid and in accordance with the law.
The three-man panel, presided over by Justice Benson Ogbu, rejected the petitions filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Agboola Ajayi, along with those from other political actors, citing a lack of credible evidence to support allegations of election irregularities and breaches of electoral guidelines.
In his reaction to the ruling, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed appreciation to God and the people of Ondo State, noting that the judgment reflects the true choice of the electorate. He urged opposition figures to join hands with his administration in building a better future for the state.
Speaking after the verdict, the PDP’s legal representative, Mr Olujimi Oluseye, indicated that the party would soon disclose its next course of action.
Meanwhile, supporters of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, were seen in high spirits outside the tribunal venue, celebrating the outcome with songs and chants.
